Mines of Dalarnia

Greetings Miners!

We hope you enjoyed our first Almanac series on the Mining Plot System. If you missed it, you can find the three part series following the links below.

Mining Plots, Part 1

Mining Plots, Part 2

Mining Plots, Part 3

In the Game Economics series, we will discuss the game’s economy from the perspective of the Miners (players) and Mining Plot owners. We will also explore the economic relationships and opportunities created by the design of the Dalarnian world. Along the way, you will learn about the various forms of NFTs and other tokenized items that will be acquired and traded both inside and outside of the game.

Read Part 1 here, where we focus on the functions of miners (players) within the game economy.

Read Part 2 here, where we focus on the functions of mining plot owners (landowners) within the game economy.

Part 3 will put together everything we’ve discussed to provide user case studies. Let’s dig in!

Game Economy Flow Chart

The following graphic was shared in Part 1 and Part 2 — we will post it here to refer to while considering the case studies.

Mines of Dalarnia Game Economy Flow Chart

Case Study #1: Steve, the casual player

Steve plays Mines of Dalarnia for fun during his spare time. When he wants an upgrade without putting in the time to ‘grind’ for resources, he uses DAR tokens to purchase more powerful items from the Marketplace. Alternatively, when he has some items he doesn’t need he posts them on the Marketplace and receives DAR when someone else purchases them.

Case Study #2: John, the P2E miner

John spends several hours a week playing the game, with the intention of earning money by acquiring and selling game resources for DAR tokens. He has very powerful equipment and has developed several gameplay strategies that help him level up equipment and farm the most desirable items. John has multiple listings on the Marketplace and regularly tracks the market value of resources as they fluctuate to price his items as efficiently as possible.

Case Study #3: Sara, the Land Baron

Sara has been accumulating mining plots since the very first land sale event, and has purchased several additional plots on the secondary market. While she spends very little time playing the game itself, she contributes to the Dalarnian economy by purchasing Terraforming Capsules (used to maintain her mining plots) on the marketplace that are being sold by miners and other land owners. By carefully managing the amount she charges for plot rental vs. how much she spends on upkeep, she makes a consistent profit.

Case Study #4: Ricky, the rookie

Ricky has just begun playing Mines of Dalarnia and does not own a Mining Passport yet. He has spent a few hours playing the ‘Free-to-play’ mines and is collecting some basic resources and performing some simple upgrades. He is enjoying the game, and considering acquiring a Mining Passport so he can begin exploring Terra Prime and the planets beyond.

Case Study #5: Ben, the ‘jack of all of trades’

Ben is always doing a little bit of everything in the Dalarnian world. He owns a couple land plots, and also does mining runs on a regular basis. This allows him to craft the Terraforming Capsules needed to keep his plots maintained, which earn him a nice stream of DAR tokens from rental fees. He uses some of the DAR he receives to help upgrade his character, and cashes out the rest as a nice bonus income. From time to time, he also buys and sells equipment on the Marketplace.

Case Study #6: Chad, the spender

Chad has recently begun playing Mines of Dalarnia and he is hooked. Since he has a nice sized crypto portfolio and doesn’t want to spend time grinding to power up his character, he buys a stack of DAR tokens and uses the Marketplace to buy all of the coolest gear and items. Since Chad buys all of his supplies from other players, he is still a contributor to the P2E economy of the game world.

An Open and Flexible Economy

These case studies are provided to demonstrate a few of the ways that users might interact with the game economy. Ultimately, the community will find creative ways to monetize the game (some of which haven’t even been imagined yet!). We hope this article will inspire you to start wondering: How will I put MoD to work for me?
