Mines of Dalarnia: Important Community Update
Dear Dalarnians,
As always, we want to express our gratitude for your unwavering support throughout our journey. It is because of you that we have come so far, and we are excited to continue growing and evolving with you by our side.
Today, we have some significant news to share that may not be favorable for some. However, we believe that transparency is essential, and it is important to keep you informed of any decisions that may impact you in any way. With this in mind, we will share the following news with the same goal as always, which is to act in your best interest.
Migration to a New Blockchain
In recent days, our team has detected a security issue on our marketplace backend that could potentially become problematic with our current contract structure. It has always been a part of our plan to eventually migrate to a new blockchain network and ultimately support multiple chains, which was supposed to happen later this year. However, due to the recent marketplace security breach we have decided to expedite the migration process as taking care of the detected security issue makes a migration to new contracts necessary even if we don’t switch the blockchain.
We estimate the migration process will take two to three months, and during this time various features of the game may be disabled or otherwise affected. We hope you will bear with us through all the steps of the process. We will do everything in our power to ensure that the migration is as smooth and seamless as possible.
Internal discussions are underway in order to identify the best choice for our new blockchain. We are considering several factors including security, transaction costs, and convenience for our existing user base while exploring multichain support for nft ownership. An announcement will be made when the team has reached a final decision.
Securing User Assets
We have taken an ownership snapshot of all equipment, lands and Canar-Es at 2:30pm UTC on April 13, 2023.
As a result of the chain migration process, NFT assets including equipment, lands, and Canar-Es will be converted to off-chain assets that will still be available in the game. This means that you will still be able to enjoy the benefits of your items in game during the migration process.
However, during the migration process the NFT assets will no longer be tradable on external marketplaces. After we have migrated to a new chain, users will be able to recoup their NFT assets on the new chain based on the snapshot. We will provide more information on this process in due time. Also, take note that this resolution also applies to users who were affected by the recent NFT theft.
DAR tokens and Resources are unaffected and will remain fully functional on the blockchain as normal. The DEX will continue to function normally as well.
Impact on the Game Itself
During the migration, several chain dependent features will be disabled temporarily, including:
- Paid on-chain digs
- Equipment crafting and upgrading
- Land management and replenishment
- Earning resources by completing digs
We are exploring several methods to restore crafting functionality as soon as possible, but other features such as paid digging cannot be restored until the migration is complete. We will announce a plan to mitigate the impact of this on our active landowners in the near future.
While players are unable to earn resources, it will still be possible to trade the resources they have already acquired on the DEX.
Ongoing Development
While the migration process will require extra time and resources, Mines of Dalarnia’s development will not pause or slow down. We will continue to release updates and new features while simultaneously working on the migration.
Update 1.3 is still on-track to be released later this month, and a closed Testnet for Ape Holders will be going up today! This update contains many new features including exciting player Competitions in the new Astrolab activity with substantial DAR rewards for winning and participating. We believe these competitions will form the backbone of MoD gameplay during this transition period.
We are committed to maintaining our forward momentum — when full blockchain functionality is restored, we want the game to be in a stronger state than ever!
$DAR Token Refund
Lastly, we want to address the issue of stolen $DAR tokens. We recognize that this is a significant concern for our users, and we can inform you that the stolen $DAR will be sent-out mid next week. We hope that this will help ease some of the worries that our users have regarding their stolen $DAR.
We sincerely apologize for all the inconvenience that this issue has caused, and would like to express our gratitude for your continuous support throughout this process. We understand that this is a significant shift for the project, and we appreciate your patience as we work towards a resolution that lays the foundation for long term success. It is because of your unwavering support that we can confidently make these necessary changes.
Once again, thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to continuing our journey together towards a better and safer Mines of Dalarnia.
