We are glad to introduce our next featured team member, our Game Economy Designer, David Otero.
He has and will continue to make vital contributions to the development of MoD and is a crucial member of our team. In this article, you will get to know more about him, his background in the gaming industry, and his perspective on MoD’s economy.
PERSONAL QUESTIONS:
Where are you located?
D: I am located in Portugal, a fantastic country for crypto enthusiasts and happiness seekers.
What’s your favorite hobby?
D: Too many to keep track! Playing the guitar, electronics, handcraft work, astronomy, and exploring the great outdoors on survival camping trips, to name a few.
What’s your favorite food?
D: A Portuguese dish called “codfish with cream.”
What’s your favorite video game?
D: Impossible to choose just one! In my childhood, Super Mario Bros for sure. During my teens, Half-Life, Warcraft, and GTA took up a lot of my time. But a game series that I’ve been playing since 1993, and I keep playing, is Star Wars: X-Wing. It later became X-Wing vs Tie-Fighter and is now called Star Wars: Squadrons.
What’s your favorite series/movie?
D: The Expanse — “Belter Loda!”
What’s your favorite music genre?
D: Really good traditional pop-rock, especially when it has a few notes of blues and folk.
ABOUT MINES OF DALARNIA:
How long have you been playing MoD?
D: I played MoD when the game launched, as I try to do with all new Web3 games. Then, because I was working on other projects, I stopped playing. And began again in October last year.
Where have you heard about it for the first time?
D: The first time was in late 2019 or early 2020, in a Twitter post. I was following Chromaway for a long time back then, and I always try to stay up-to-date on new game releases and blockchain projects.
What do you like the most about this project?
D: I love MoD’s strong design, its potential for growth and innovation, and the dedicated team that is committed to providing a high-quality gaming experience to the players.
How long have you been in the crypto space?
D: I have been in the crypto space since 2015! I remember that BTC was at $287 that day. Shortly after, it felt like almost 50%! A hell of a way to enter crypto.
What’s the funniest thing you ever encountered here?
D: I find the creativity and humor of the crypto community to be hilarious — from memes to dark humor, they never fail to make me smile — even in the middle of a dip.
How do you see Mines Dalarnia after a year?
D: MoD has grown, adapted, and expanded a lot during this first year. Right now, we have some new game modes, and more are in the pipeline. Competitions are set to explode, we have a new social hub, and we are in the middle of a blockchain migration. And we have really impactful changes scheduled for the next few months. For a first year during a severe bear market, it is definitely a big achievement! But there’s so much more to improve in our game and in the entire MoD ecosystem, so let this 1st Anniversary be the starting point for the incredible things that will happen in the next 365 days.
Tell us more about your background in the gaming industry and how you perceive MoD from an economist’s perspective?
D: I have been working in the gaming industry since 2012, mainly as a game and economy designer. I spent 8 years at Electronic Arts, focusing on free-to-play mobile games, and since 2017, I’ve been involved in blockchain games. From an economist’s perspective, MoD has a solid foundation and a lot of potential to grow and evolve. The team behind the game is professional, dedicated to the players and the game’s quality, and wants to ensure a sustainable and enjoyable blockchain gaming experience. As a game economist, this is gold for me, because there’s nothing better than helping design an economy for a game that is focused on quality and players’ experiences.
What do you think is MoD’s current weakness economically speaking?
D: Our current economic weakness lies in the plot system and the limitation of having only two economic roles: miners and landowners. We’re actively working on addressing these issues to create a more diverse and engaging economy that is, more than anything, sustainable for the long haul.
Anything else you would like to share with our community?
D: I am incredibly grateful for the support and enthusiasm of our community. Your passion drives me to keep pushing the boundaries and make MoD the best it can be. Stay tuned for exciting updates, and let’s keep mining together!
We want to extend a huge thank you to David for taking the time to share his insights and experiences with the MoD community. David’s contributions as a game economist have been invaluable, and we are fortunate to have him on our team. As we continue to work towards creating a sustainable and engaging economy, we are confident that David’s expertise will play a critical role in achieving our goals.
